OVERVIEW OF OUR TMJ ASSESSMENT
  • Posture Analysis
  • Assess upper and lower c-spine mobility
  • Palpate head, neck, and jaw musculature
  • Strength test lips, cheeks, tongue, and jaw muscles
  • Measure jaw motion and observe tracking
  • Classify whether or not the joint dysfunction is involved
SYMPTOMS OF TMJ DYSFUNCTION
  • Unable to open mouth
  • Clicking
  • Decreased/Increased Mobility
  • Pain in or around the ear
  • Pain when eating
  • Ringing or fullness in ear
OUR TREATMENT OF TMJ DYSFUNCTION:
  • Decrease TMJ Inflammation
  • Decrease Muscle Imbalances with:
    • Soft Tissue Release
    • Stretching exercises
    • Strengthening exercises
  • Improve postural alignment
  • Teach good body mechanics
  • Restore Normal TMJ mobility
  • Restore normal tongue resting position, coordination, and strength
  • Recommend splinting when appropriate

WHAT TYPE OF HEADACHE CAN WE HELP?
Headaches that result from muscle tension and trigger points can often be significantly alleviated with manual Physical Therapy.
COMMON TENSION HEADACHES THAT WE TREAT:
CERVICOGENIC HEADACHES
  • Pain originates from the neck and is referred to the head
  • Brought on by sustained neck postures and forward head position
  • Trigger point formation within the muscles often occurs
  • Pain is often one-sided, and can be reproduced by palpation of the trigger point
TMJ MUSCLE TENSION HEADACHES
  • Trigger points within the jaw muscles can refer pain to various regions of the face and head
  • Often associated with clenching, teeth grinding or other oral habits
